The Shadow of the Wind - Carlos Ruiz Zafon

Barcelona in 1945: A 10 year old David Sempere accompanied his father to a mysterious house, it is the "cemetery of forgotten books." He may choose a book and go with "The Shadow of the Wind" by Julián Carax home. The novel fascinates and touches the very young, and Daniel begins, for the author to investigate interest and its fate. No one knows what became of Carax, he seems swallowed by the earth. Daniel's life is determined by this search, and he winds up in danger because another man is Carax's trail: the brutal and cold Inspector Fumero.

In "The Shadow of the Wind" is a romance in the novel. The longer Daniel with the book and its author employs, the deeper his fate seems to be with the involvement of Carax. It appears as if Daniel will experience the story once again. But maybe he has a chance to do better ...

It's just awesome how Zafón with the language plays, as he juggles with words as if they were colorful balls. Dramatically decrease, mystical, dark but with great moments, interwoven with subtle humor, the author weaves the plot around his protagonists. Quickly developed this novel a suction effect that one can hardly escape the reader (nor willing). One lives and suffers with the narrator appears and together with Daniel more and more into the story. When reading to win many important insights into the depths of the human soul, for some of the characters, who met Daniel, dark secrets with him. But there are also the happy moments in the novel, which tell of friendship and love.

Friendship is something of a theme of the story because she finds Daniel, where he never expected, least of all: less in the street .... It would be a shame to reveal more, because this book you have to enjoy yourself completely open mind, from the first page to last.
